The Bremen State Radioactivity Measurements Laboratory is part of the surveillance network for environmental radioactivity ("IMIS"), set up by the Federal Government. Like the corresponding laboratories of the other German States, the lab regularly measures several environmental media as well as foodstuff and drinking water. In the event of an emergency, the lab will carry out intensive measurement campaigns to provide short-term information on radiation levels within the State of Bremen.

In addition, the lab offers radioactivity measurements as service for interested citizens, environmental groups and companies.

Within the Institute of Environmental Physics, the lab contributes to teaching and research in the fields of terrestrial environmental physics and radioecology.

A summary of the lab's field of activity as well as a short introduction to the concept of radiation dose can be found in this flyer (in german).
